Types Of Drums
Kit Drums
These are the common types of drums found in jazz bands. Drum kits consists of Snared drum which is the most essential thing for drumming. It produces sound by snares, which are tight strands of plastic stretched towards the snare drum. Using different sizes of drumsticks users can play varieties of sounds on snare. Other kit drums are bass drum, floor tom, and mounted tom.
Oversize Drums
These are large hefty drums and they create low-pitched sounds. They are used in different rhythms of songs. You can find the types of oversize drums like timpani and pitched bass in marching band and orchestras. “Taiko” is an oversized drum used in Japan. They are placed on wooden frames and are played with large drumsticks.
Hand Drums
Hand drums are quite distinct and are played with different hand parts like palms, thumbs and fingers. Hand drums give booming sound, the most famous and known hand drum is djembe which is from West Africa. Its diameter is 11-14 inches and height is 24 inches and its top layer is made of synthetic material. The other eminent hand drum is Middle Eastern doumbek, its top layer of fibreglass creates crisp, high pitch sound.
