Drums are a popular musical instrument. It comes in different shapes and are used for different type of music. The resonance of a stretched membrane vibrates within an air closed cavity, which produces sounds. You can play one drum at a time or multiple ones. Different kinds of drums when put together forms a drum kit. It can be played striking with hands or sticks.
You must be amazed to know that, drums are the oldest musical instrument known to man. There are many paintings and sculptures of different cultures, where there is evidence of drums.
What are the different types of drums?
Kit drums: the drum kits are commonly used in bands. It is played using drumsticks. There are different shapes of drums of different pitches.
Hand drums: as the name suggests, it is played with hand. Palms, finger and thumbs are used to produce different sounds. The application of hand drums is seen extensively in African countries. It can range from 11 to 14 inch in diameter, and can have a height of 24 inches.
Oversized drums: it is of gigantic size. It is seen in Japanese traditional music forms. It is played with large drumsticks.
