What is a drum?
A drum is a musical instrument which comes under percussion group. A drum consists of at least one membrane on one side or on both the sides the membrane can be placed. The membrane is known as drum skin or drumhead. It is mainly made up of animal skin or leather with the smooth sounding surface or in some cases in modern drums fibre membranes are used.
How to play drums?
The drums can be played by bare hands if you are accustomed to that but in most of the cases drumsticks mainly wooden sticks are used for playing drums. The drums can be played individually or in some cases to many drums are played according to the requirement of the music.
Types of drums
The different types of drums available are aburukuwa, bedug, bongo drums, chenda, conga, davul, dhak, dholak, dunun, log drum, madal, darbuka, ashiko, tombak, timbales, tapan, tar, tavil, table, taiko, surdo, steel drum or steelpan, snare drum, etc.
Uses of drums
Drums are used to produce sounds and the sounds produced are required in many fields like music composing, band performance or shows on stage, parades, ceremonies like marriage, festivals and for different occasions, etc. The uses of drums are often needed for music therapy.
